Alex the Magician – Make Your Parents Disappear! combines jaw-dropping magic with plenty of audience participation, all wrapped up in a madcap story about two magic brothers devising resourceful solutions to their childhood problems. April 1 - 16, daily at 2:00pm (no shows on Mondays). Suitable for ages 5 to 9. Cost: $14 + booking fee. Children aged 18 months and younger are admitted free of charge provided they do not occupy a seat.
National Institute of Circus Arts Australia (NICA) – Children can run away to the circus and experience a selection of circus activities including juggling, tumbling, mini trampoline, static trapeze, aerial ring, hula hoops, tight wire and more. Come along for a day or stay for the whole week! You can choose from 3 hour or all day programs. There is also a serious circus program for teens.
Science and Engineering
Club Engineer - Build and program robots with Lego Mindstorms or write then play your own computer games. Club Engineer teaches tech-savvy kids, teens and young adults engineering principles through robotics and game programming. The junior program is for students from year five to year seven and prepares them for entering the Robocup Rescue competition. The middle and senior school programs are for students from year eight and beyond and teaches game programming using a variety of commercial languages and tools. All course-ware is available online for free for those who cannot make it to a face-to-face session.
cnaptic holiday program – 3 D Internet of Things: Create a magical device this holiday. Light up a Christmas tree, startle your neighbour's cat, entertain your pet fish, and much more. All done remotely via an internet connected device. Learn about IoT and have heaps of fun using IoT-enhanced 3D printed objects. Suitable for ages 6+. Cost: $70/day. Extensions and challenges are available if your child joins multiple days. Program starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm.
e2 Young Engineers – Hands-on LEGO® Challenge workshops where students build educational motorized models like amusement park rides, aircraft, transportation vehicles, cranes etc. Through the use of exciting experiments and building originally designed LEGO® bricks models that illustrate Science and Engineering topics your child will have FUN while improving creativity, concentration, visual-spatial and social skills just to name a few. Lego kits, battery, motor with visual instructions will be provided.
Golden Gear Robotics S.T.E.A.M Laboratory – Technology adventures: kids learn to code through building and programming Lego Mindstorms and Lego Edison robots. AFL Victoria Holiday Programs - The AFL Victoria School Holiday Program introduces both boys and girls who are turning 5 and turning no older than 12 in the year they register to the basic skills of Australian Football. Hi Voltage Karts - The opportunity for young children and teens to learn electric go kart racing in a safe and friendly environment. Out Beyond School Holiday Camps – A unique youth development organisation specialising in outdoor education, eco-tourism and adventure travel, Out Beyond runs school holiday camp programs in Melbourne and Regional Victoria for students from all around the world. Code Camp – Three and four day coding camps are being held from 3 – 29 April 2017 at multiple Melbourne school-based locations. In Little League Code Camp (Years K-1), Code Camp Spark and Ignite (Years 2-7) and Code Camp Leap (For students having mastered Spark & Ignite Camps), kids create and build their own game, learning about user design and the psychology of user experience. The end result is an app that works on multiple devices, and every kid goes home with their own self-created game.
Code It Yourself Club – Attend a full day, CIY.Club session on Wednesday, 12 April 2017, 9.30am – 3.30pm. Coders embark on a journey of learning, training and mastering the foundations underlying some of today’s most exciting areas of Technology. Pathways start at the basics of game coding and 3D design with progression opening doors to more advanced challenges in these topics, as well as 3D printing, website development, robotics or App design.
That VR Joint – A virtual reality entertainment centre in Fitzroy offering games and experiences suitable for kids 7 and up. Explore King Tut's tomb, see what a real job is like in the Job Simulator where the robots are in charge, climb a chocolate wall and monkey climb across massive candy canes or even shoot space aliens in a faraway galaxy. Cost: $30 for 30 min, and this time slot can be shared between two children.
