      Alpine Resorts Governance Reform

      The government announced in February 2016 that reform of the alpine resorts governance arrangements is required to ensure the sector can effectively respond and adapt to current and future challenges, particularly the impacts of climate change.

      Victorians who live, work and play in Victoria’s alpine resorts have extensive knowledge of the resorts and can make a valuable contribution to the process of reforming their governance.

    • Inquiry into Community Energy Projects
      Inquiry into Community Energy Projects

      To the Economic, Education, Jobs and Skills Committee, for consideration and report no later than 1 July 2017, into supporting the role of communities in the Victorian energy economy and, in undertaking the inquiry, the Committee should

      1. look at the potential role of co-operatives, mutuals, social enterprises and community ownership in the energy sector;
      2. investigate the benefits of community owned energy programs;
      3. investigate the best ways to encourage the uptake of community energy projects;
      4. investigate the ability to expand community energy projects outside of solar and wind power;
      5. review the best practice models of other Australian and international jurisdictions for supporting community ownership options in the energy sector;
      6. investigate the challenges to community energy projects in metropolitan areas; and
      7. investigate ways to support communities to surmount challenges to community owned energy in metropolitan areas.

      The submission closing date is Thursday 29 September 2016.

    • Inquiry into the Control of Invasive Animals on Crown Land
      Inquiry into the Control of Invasive Animals on Crown Land

      Received from the Legislative Assembly on 14 April 2016:

      That, under s 33 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003, an inquiry be referred to the Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Committee for consideration and report no later than 30 March 2017 into the benefits of Parks Victoria and other agencies such as the Game Management Authority’s use of community hunting organisations and individuals in the control of invasive animals on Crown land including but not limited to the following:

      * assessment of the biodiversity outcomes, community safety and limitations of the trial conducted by Parks Victoria on control of deer populations in a national park;
      * consideration of the application of these types of programs for other invasive animal species in partnership with Crown land managers;
      * assessment of the relative costs and benefits, financial or otherwise, of other forms of pest control in national parks.

      That, pursuant to Sessional Order 6 this Bill be referred to the Environment and Planning Committee for inquiry, consideration and report; the Committee will present its final report to the Council no later than 14 February 2017; and the second reading of this Bill be deferred until the final report of the Committee is presented to the House in accordance with the terms of this resolution.

      That, pursuant to Sessional Order 6, this House requires the Economy and Infrastructure Committee to inquire into, consider and report on, no later than 22 August 2017, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
      Victoria (Inc) in relation to —

      the appropriateness and use of its powers pursuant to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986, including in the context of its other objectives and activities;
      the appropriateness and use of funding provided by the Victorian Government, including in the context of its other objectives and activities; and
      any other consequential matters the Committee may deem appropriate.

      Inquiry into the Sustainability and Operational Challenges of Victoria's Rural and Regional Councils

      To the Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Committee to inquire into, consider and report, no later than 31 March 2016*, the sustainability and operational challenges of Victoria’s rural and regional councils, including but not limited to the following —

      (a) local government funding and budgetary pressures;

      (b) fairness, equity and adequacy of rating systems;

      (c) impact of rate-capping policies;

      (d) capacity for rural and regional councils to meet responsibilities for flood planning and preparation, and maintenance of flood mitigation infrastructure;

      (e) maintenance of local road and bridge networks; and

      (f) weed and pest animal control;

      Lake Boort Wildlife Reserve Management Plan

      Parks Victoria is developing a management plan for Lake Boort Wildlife Reserve with assistance from Context.

      Development of a plan is an outcome of the Dja Dja Wurrung Recognition and Settlement Agreement. The plan will provide the basis for negotiation of a Cultural Heritage Agreement under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) between the State and the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DDW).
