Digital Innovation Festival

The Digital Innovation Festival celebrates the 'Victorian Difference' that drives entrepreneurs, students and industry to not only be different but make a difference through digital technology. The Festival brings together and promotes a range of digital innovation and technology events across the State. Run annually around the national iAwards the 2016 festival ran from 26 August to 9 September.

Festival highlights


40+ partners held 70+ events over 2 weeks

Thank you to all our 2016 partners who stepped up and showcased what makes Melbourne and Victoria different. Our 40+ partners hosted over 70 including 3 awards, forums, workshops, 2 showcases, 2 hackathons and many more activities. Far and wide from CBD laneways, university campuses, community and co-working spaces - wherever digital innovators make a difference.

Leading technology associations ACS, auDA, AIIA, Apache Foundation, Internet NZ, Pearcey Foundation and Telsoc addressed the key issues to keep our industry moving forward.

The DIF event partners shared their expertise and the one stage at Federation Square - PauseFest, Creative Innovation, BuzzConf, Pivot Summit, IE Digital, Silicon Block Party, Melbourne Knowledge Week and City of Melbourne.

Knowledge partners La Trobe University, RMIT University and University of Melbourne expanded our understanding and Collective Campus, DLTV, General Assembly and Victoria Polytechnic developed skills for the future.

The digital social innovators Ask Izzy, Clickability, DSI4AU, GoDigi, Infoxchange and Not the Only One showed us how tech can make a real difference to our communities in need.

Community libraries across Victoria from the City of Melbourne, City of Ballarat and City of Geelong ran events and workshops to build the digital capability of citizens from toddlers to seniors.

Award winners from ANZIA, iAwards and Victorian Spatial Excellence Awards were recognised for their inspiring innovations - the best of Australasia's digital technologies.

Diversity was championed and women encouraged into digital careers with the launch of Girls in Tech Australia, whilst female entrepreneurs Run the World by League of Extraordinary Women and exploring leadership with Vic ICT for Women.

The startup ecosystem Collective Campus, General Assembly, Lab14 Carlton Connect, LaunchVic, Silicon Beach, Startup Victoria, The Churchill Club and dozens of Meetups on as many topics.

You all make this state the vibrant, innovative, creative place to live, work and play. We look forward to you joining us again in 2017.

The Digital Innovation Festival - or DIF - seeks out excellence across the digital and tech community/sector to host events that reflect the difference digital innovation delivers.
