The CSIRO Tropical Ecosystems Research Centre (TERC) serves as a focus for research in the seasonal tropics of northern Australia. For years scientists at TERC have researched issues such as: conservation management of natural and semi-natural areas; tropical agriculture and horticulture; and ecology and integrated control of weeds. More recently TERC's research focus has shifted towards delivering environmental, social and economic benefits by working in partnership with the people who influence, use and manage Australia's tropical savannas.

The CSIRO Tropical Forest Research Centre is located in Atherton, Far North Queensland. It provides a research base for a number of scientists engaged in projects studying aspects of the tropical forest environment. Their work is aimed at increasing understanding of the various complex relationships of the rainforest ecology, so that communities and forest management agencies may make sound judgement decisions.
