Free and fair elections are central to our democracy. It is every citizen's responsibility to understand the electoral process and have a say.
The principle of 'one vote, one value' is a foundation of the democratic process in Victoria. Boundary reviews are conducted to make sure each vote has equal value in elections.
The VEC's Community Education Team works with groups in our community who may face barriers to democratic participation. We explore the role democracy plays in people's lives and encourage a culture of active citizenship.
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) conducts Victorian State elections, local council elections, certain statutory elections and polls, and commercial and community elections. We also conducts boundary reviews, maintains the Victorian electoral enrolment register, conducts electoral research, provide education services and work to engage all Victorians who are entitled to vote in the democratic process.
