2009 Alfred Deakin Eco-Innovation Lectures

The 2009 Alfred Deakin Eco-Innovation Lecture series will explore new ways to build Victoria's low carbon economy through innovation.

This year's theme Climate and Innovation - Building the low carbon economy NOW links the inescapable challenge of climate change to the spirit of creativity and innovation.

The Deakins 09 will feature key influential thinkers and innovators in the climate change area including Th!nk CEO Richard Canny and Better Place CEO and Founder Shai Agassi who will help lead discussions.

Events will run from July to December, the series will be launched with two events on Wednesday, 22 July at BMW Edge at Federation Square during the State of Design Festival.

The Deakins 09 aim to inform, provoke and stimulate debate, ideas and conversations about how innovation can transform the economy, society and the environment in response to climate change.

Curated by Professor Chris Ryan, the lecture series will include three more Deakin Lectures held in the second half of 2009, including one in Bendigo.

Shai Agassi, founder and CEO of Better Place, will share his vision of freeing cars from oil, in a new era of sustainable transportation.

A Local Car for the Silent Highway.

6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday 22 July 2009

Richard Canny, CEO of TH!K will present a compelling view of the near future of the family car.
