Blessed opening for AFI awards

Directed by celebrated Victorian filmmaker Ana Kokkinos (Head On), Blessed follows seven children who wander the streets over the course of a day and a night. The feature was filmed in Melbourne's western suburbs.

During the screening season, AFI members view Australian films made over the last year and cast their votes for the national awards. The coveted AFI awards are hosted in Melbourne in December.

Nine of the 26 feature films in competition for this year's AFI Awards were made with support from the Brumby Labour Government.

Through Film Victoria, the Government has supported over 41 film and television productions that began filming over the last year, ensuring a robust future for the local screen industry.

Other supported films in the competition are Balibo, Charlie & Boots, Dying Breed, Lake Mungo, Last Ride, Mary and Max, My Year Without Sex, and Van Diemen's Land. The films Lionel and Bastardy are also in competition under the non feature film category. The full list can be found on the AFI Awards Page.
