New Responsible Gambling Provisions
The Gambling Regulation Act 2003 now makes it compulsory for certain organisations that conduct commercial gambling operations to adopt a Responsible Gambling Code of Conduct (Code) and, in the case of gaming venue operators, a Self-Exclusion Program (SEP). These organisations include gaming venues, lotteries operators, bingo centres, the casino operator, Club Keno participants, wagering providers and commercial raffle organisers.
The industry was required to comply with these new requirements by 1 June 2009.
The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) is responsible for approving the Codes and SEPs and ensuring that they are in place. Currently, the Commission has approved 14 generic Codes and 2 Self-exclusion programs.
In addition, the "Responsible Gambling Project Team" funded by the Community Support Fund has been established within the VCGR to assist industry to enable compliance, guide development and publicise best working practice.
