Secure your loose loads
On Sunday 14 June, VicRoads, in partnership, with Citylink and EastLink launched the Loose Loads Make Dangerous Roads campaign encouraging Victorian drivers to safely secure their loads before they drive on the road.
The campaign was developed to both remind, and raise awareness among Victorians of risks and responsibilities associated with carrying loads on the state's roads.
Throughout 2008 major delays and crashes were caused by loads coming loose or off trucks and trailers:
- more than 50 cars were hit by poorly secured items falling vehicles
- over 700 callouts (1500 hours), requiring VicRoads staff to go into some dangerous situations to retrieve debris
- around 60 to 80 tonnes of debris including fridges, mattresses, cartons and garden waste were collected, costing in excess of $80,000.
The campaign will use a combination of outdoor and online media channels to drive its messages. Posters will also be displayed in VicRoads Customer Service Centres as well as CiyLink':s reception area, and information brochures will be sent to VicRoads, CityLink and EastLink customers, with their statement or registration renewals.
