Stage 2 water restrictions
Melbourne will remain on Stage 2 water restrictions until we see how the city’s dams recover over winter and spring.
Water Minister Peter Walsh has made the announcement after consulting with Melbourne's water corporations.
Mr Walsh said by keeping restrictions at Stage 2, dams would have a better chance to recover without impacting severely on Melbourne water users.
Mr Walsh said the Baillieu Government would also conduct a comprehensive review of drought response and permanent water savings plans.
Stage 2 water restrictions mean households can continue to:
- use a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle to water gardens at any time;
- wash cars at home with either a bucket or a high pressure cleaning device (not a hose);
- water gardens with a manual watering system (that you turn on and off by hand) between 6am and 8am and 8pm and 10pm on alternate days;
- if you are aged over 70, water between 8 and 10 o’clock in the morning; and
- water gardens with an automatic watering system (that is set to turn on and off automatically) between midnight and 4 am on alternate days.
Lawns may not be watered and paved areas may not be hosed unless for health and safety reasons.
