Ararat and Sale will be home to two new regional liquor and gaming inspector hubs, following a funding boost by the Victorian Government to hire permanent inspectors in regional Victoria.

The government provided $11.3 million over four years to the Victorian Commission for Gaming and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) in the 2017/18 State Budget to increase its presence in regional Victoria.

The announcement means licensed venues in regional and rural Victoria will be more closely monitored and eight jobs will be available for inspectors based in Ararat and Sale.

The VCGLR inspectors will travel across regional Victoria to increase supervision of venues and build stronger relationships with stakeholders. Recruitment of the eight inspectors will commence this week.

Many rural and regional areas experience high levels of alcohol misuse and have communities vulnerable to the impacts of problem gambling.

With more inspectors in the regions, the VCGLR will be able to visit venues to help educate managers about their obligations and make sure they are doing the right thing.

Information sessions for anyone interested in the new inspector positions will be held in Sale and Ararat in the coming weeks.
