April 2010
WorkSafe is looking for companies and individuals that go the extra distance and whose innovation and leadership raises the standard of health and safety for everyone.
Many people are doing great things, being innovative to meet their particular issues, but don't realise they're ahead of the pack. These individuals, groups and organisations show others that many issues can be dealt with effectively, quickly with relatively little expense, while delivering great benefits.
Whether you're a health and safety representative, Victoria's smallest company or the biggest, a farmer who's created a safety solution or a designer who's eliminated a risk, WorkSafe wants to hear from you.
This year's categories are:
Becoming a finalist or winner of a prestigious WorkSafe Award could give you and your organisation valuable recognition - at the Awards presentation dinner, through media publicity, and within the Victorian business community. To find out what it takes to be a finalist visit our online awards catalogue at worksafe.vic.gov.au/awards which contains videos of recent finalists.
To discuss a potential application, or to receive an information pack, call the Awards Coordinator on 8663 5033 or email awards@worksafe.vic.gov.au.
Entry forms can also be downloaded from worksafe.vic.gov.au/awards from 22 March.

The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund 2009 recently released its 12 Month Report which details how the unprecedented $389 million donated to the Fund has been allocated to bushfire-affected individuals and communities in need.
Of the $389 million available, almost all has been allocated. More than 22,000 individual payments totalling $232 million are helping people who have spent the last year recovering and rebuilding. More than $57 million has already been committed to community recovery initiatives.
The Department of Human Services has played a significant role in the recovery process, including responsibility for the Secretariat and implementation functions for the Appeal Fund. The work is not yet over, there are many who still have major battles ahead as they recover physically, emotionally and financially. It is appropriate that we use this anniversary to reflect on how one of our greatest tragedies also became a powerful example of kindness and hope.
