May 2011
The National Gallery of Victoria turns 150 on 24 May, 2011.
This is a major milestone in the history of Australia's first public art gallery and an exciting moment for Victorians to celebrate their outstanding art collection and the achievement of artists.
NGV 150 will be an opportunity to welcome all Victorians to see and experience the great Collection, exhibitions and programs of the NGV. It also serves as an important moment to reflect upon the amazing philanthropic history of the NGV. With regular announcements throughout 2011 about important new works that have been acquired through our Masterpieces for Melbourne fundraising campaign, the NGV Collection will continue to grow for the enjoyment of future generations.

It also contains useful advice for parents on strategies to help them confidently manage alcohol issues with their children with links to important information on the health risks of underage drinking.
Victorian families have been urged to get their gas appliances regularly serviced and checked to stop accidental carbon monoxide deaths in a new campaign featuring the parents of two children who died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide poisoning in the home becomes a danger when gas appliances, such as heaters, malfunction and do not burn the gas. The appliance may appear to be functioning normally but is also producing poisonous carbon monoxide. There have been nine fatalities from carbon monoxide poisoning in Victoria in the last 11 years.

Education Week 2011 will be celebrated from 15 - 21 May 2011 when kindergartens and government schools throughout Victoria will open their doors to parents and their broader communities through information nights, open days, student displays, performances and other special events that showcase their programs and achievements.
Education Week coincides with National Families Week in 2011, which presents the opportunity for schools and kindergartens to consolidate their involvement in both weeks and highlight the role and importance of family in a child’s early learning and education journey.
