Metal Detecting for Gold and Relics in Australia
This book is designed to give you all the information needed to successfully operate a metal detector on Australian goldfields.
"We tell you how to choose your machine, how to prospect with it, and where to go to find coarse gold and relics."
Only working smoke alarms save lives
When you're asleep you lose your sense of smell. A smoke alarm is your electronic nose. It will alert you if there is smoke from a fire.
So if you didn't change your smoke alarm batteries at the end of daylight savings in April, as advised by the MFB it might be a good time to do so now – just to be SAFE.
Melbourne, Australia is in the same time zone as Vladivostok, Russia.
A lot of water lies between the two with only part of PNG and a number of Pacific islands between Australia and Russia.
Creswick - Bendigo
Victoria's worst mining accident occurred at 'The New Australasian No 2 Mine' at Creswick in 1882 when 22 lives were lost. The funeral procession consisted of 5,000 people with 15,000 onlookers from the Creswick area.
After a 'fatal mining accident' the deceased remains were often taken to the closest hotel (public house) as a hotel had a basement (cellar) which meant the body could be kept cool while waiting for an inquest to be held.
Details taken from Bendigo's Lost Miners 1852 – 2001, a collection of over 850 biographies and accident reports compiled by John Kelly, which received a Commendation in the Best Community Research, Registers and Records category in the 2009 Victorian Community History Awards.
