2010 Victorian Seniors Festival: 3 - 10 October

The Victorian Seniors Festival now in its 29th year, is a high-profile Government managed event that runs from 3 - 10 October. The festival features over 1,000 free and low-cost events and activities for seniors across Victoria ranging from concerts and fine arts to bushwalking and golf.

Opening Day at Federation Square provides an array of activities for all seniors to enjoy. Come down and listen to some of the best musicians in Melbourne performing jazz, swing and contemporary pop. Explore a huge range of U3A curricula, language research and visual arts. With over 150 activities to choose from there is something for everyone on opening day.

Located nearby is the Melbourne Town Hall Festival Hub a warm cosy environment, a meeting place to converse and relax with a free tea and coffee. Daily presentations, entertainment and displays are just some of the highlights that run throughout the festival week.

Spring Open Day

On Sunday 3 October, the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne opens its gates, doors and glasshouses and invites the public to see what happens behind the scenes of one of Melbourne's oldest landmarks.

Enjoy free nursery tours, bush tucker tours with an Indigenous guide, Rain Garden talks, composting demonstrations, tours of historic Gardens House and Garden Discovery tours.

The ever-popular Growing Friends Plant Sale is an opportunity to find a special plant to add to your garden at home. There'll be fun activities for children in The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden and a great selection of upbeat live music to listen to throughout the day.

Community Safety Month


Community Safety MonthCommunity Safety Month provides Victorians with a chance to take part in activities and events and learn how to make local communities safer places to live and work.

Held in October each year, the month aims to promote awareness about a broad range of safety matters, including crime prevention, personal safety, safe work practices and staying safe during an emergency.

The Office of Women's Policy is proud to coordinate Women and Money 2010. Women and Money 2010 is a key initiative of the Women's Financial Literacy Project and aims to help women improve their money management skills through workshops, seminars and online information. The project is delivered in partnership with WIRE Women's Information and the Queen Victoria Women's Centre.
