Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program

The Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Program is a new and important investment by the Victorian Government to provide Aboriginal organisations with support to undertake upgrades and improvements to existing facilities.

Improving Aboriginal community infrastructure is fundamental to the pursuit of self-determination and social and economic development for Aboriginal Victorians.

What types of projects might be funded? 

Repairs and Minor Works (Up to $50,000 plus GST)

Apply for Repairs and Minor Works

Projects eligible for minor works include essential repairs and improvements that bring facilities up to standard or improve safety, cosmetic works, works to improve the environmental performance of the building, or works to improve accessibility to the facility.

Feasibility Studies/Business Case (Up to $50,000 plus GST)

Apply for Feasibility Studies/Business Case

Projects eligible for feasibility study/business cases include Aboriginal organisations that are looking to expand or construct facilities that enhance or extend culturally specific services and facilities.

Capital Works and Upgrades ($50,000 - $1,500,000 plus GST)

Apply for Capital Works and Upgrades

Projects eligible for capital works include structural works to improve a facility’s accessibility and use.

Who can apply?

Incorporated Aboriginal organisations registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV), the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) or the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) are eligible to apply for funding.

Auspice organisations, including local councils, are eligible to apply for funding on behalf of Aboriginal organisations.

Only one application can be submitted per organisation.

The Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Fund

The Program forms part of the Aboriginal Community Infrastructure Fund, a significant investment from the Victorian Government of $21.7 million to support self-determination and the economic capacity and sustainability of Aboriginal organisations.

This Fund also includes funding of $5.4 million towards the First Mortgage Community Infrastructure Program to accelerate the removal of first mortgages over Aboriginal organisation-owned properties.
