Aboriginal Funding Reform Project

For a long time we’ve heard that the way that Aboriginal organisations are funded has negative impacts and affects their ability to support better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.

We’re the launching the Funding Reform Project to investigate how we can improve and test news ways of funding Aboriginal organisation.

The Funding Reform Project is a joint initiative of the Aboriginal Executive Council and Secretaries’ Leadership Group on Aboriginal Affairs, and a whole of government self-determination priority.

Selection process

Expressions of interest were open from 18 September to 5 October, and are now closed. Aboriginal organisations that applied to take part in the Funding Reform Project will be contacted regarding their applications and to assess their performance against the selection criteria.

The project

We will work with the selected Aboriginal organisations to identify and develop solutions to address the funding issues that affect them, including changes that need to occur within government systems.

Together, we will develop, test and work towards achieving pooled, outcomes-based funding arrangements and other mechanisms to increase the level of control participating organisations have over budgeting, planning and funding.
