The main result of these community consultations was that the representative body needs to be democratic, independent from government, and able to authorise treaty or treaties.

Victorian Treaty Forum- 28 April 2017

On Friday 28 April 2017, a treaty forum was held in Melbourne for the Victorian Aboriginal community. The purpose was to outline the journey so far, present the outcomes of the March consultations, Treaty Circles and Online Message Stick. As well as to advise on the next steps in the treaty process.

Community consultations- March 2017

In March 2017, 6 consultations were held in regional and metropolitan areas alongside a state wide forum. This built on the 10 consultations and the state wide forum held in 2016.

Aboriginal Victoria Forum- 13 December 2016

This forum presented the consultation findings and options to guide the development of a representative body. Round-table workshops enabled further consultation and another opportunity for the Victorian Aboriginal community to have its say.

Treaty and Aboriginal representation consultations-  July-December 2016

The Aboriginal Treaty Interim Working Group, supported by Ernst & Young independent consultants, met with the Victorian Aboriginal community to work out what representation could look like and discuss how it might be achieved.

Aboriginal Victoria Forum- 26-27 May 2016

The first state wide Aboriginal Victoria forum was held to bring together the Victorian Aboriginal community and agree on how to advance self-determination, a treaty and an Aboriginal representative body.
