With road closures in place around the CBD and Docklands, the best way to get around is by public transport. 

Public transport services run to a public holiday schedule, so make sure you plan ahead.

Road closures and changed traffic conditions for Sunday 26 January 2020

Street closures

CBD

4am – 2pm: Flinders Street – Centre carriage way left hand turn lane from Flinders Street to St Kilda Road eastern service lane

4am – 2.30pm: Swanston Street – Little Collins Street to Collins Street (Southbound lane only)

7.30am – 1.15pm:  Swanston Street – Lonsdale Street to Flinders Street

7.30am – 1.15pm: Collins Street – Elizabeth Street to Russell Street

9.30am – 12.30pm: Little Collins Street/Royal Lane to Elizabeth Street

9.30am – 1.45pm: St Kilda Road – Flinders Street to Southbank Boulevard

9.30am – 12.30pm: Little Bourke Street & Bourke Street – Elizabeth Street to Russell Street.

10am – 2pm: Flinders Lane – Elizabeth Street to Exhibition Street (no right-hand turn onto Elizabeth Street)

9.30am – 12.30pm: Bourke St – Elizabeth Street to Russell Street

10am – 2pm: Flinders Street – Queen Street to Russell Street

Deliveries in Swanston Street and Collins Street will be permitted until 8.30am.

Kings Domain Gardens Precinct

From 11.59pm Friday 24 January to 10pm Sunday 26 January: Linlithgow Avenue from Government House Drive to Linlithgow Avenue North

12.01am – 10am: Birdwood Avenue will be closed from Domain Road to Dallas Brooks Drive

4am – 1pm: St Kilda Road Eastern Service Lane from Princes Bridge to Anzac Avenue

4am – 6pm: Birdwood Avenue from Dallas Brooks Drive to Government House Drive; St Kilda Road Eastern Service Lane

11am – 2pm: Linlithgow Avenue North from St Kilda Road to Alexandra Parade

Docklands

4pm – 11pm: Harbour Esplanade between La Trobe Street & Bourke Street will be closed in full to all vehicles (except Emergency Services)

4pm – 11pm: Docklands Drive will be closed to entering traffic from Footscray Road. Entry from Dudley Street will be open but limited to one lane.

8pm – 10pm: There will be closures in place within the Docklands precinct along Docklands Drive, Pearl River Road & Waterfront Way. Little Docklands Drive will be closed to through traffic

Alterations to public transport

Collins Street services (8pm to 1.45pm)

Route 11 will run between West Preston Terminus & Stop 101 Collins Street

Route 12 will run between Victoria Gardens & St Kilda/Fitzroy Street diverting via La Trobe Street (both directions)

Route 48 will run between North Balwyn Terminus & Stop 7 101 Collins Street

Route 109 will run between Box Hill & Port Melbourne diverting via La Trobe Street (both directions)

Shuttle services will operate between Stop 4 – Flinders Street / Elizabeth Street and Stop D18 Victoria Harbour

Flinders Street services (10.15am to 2pm)

Route 70 will run between Wattle Park & Stop 6 Flinders Street/Russell Street.

Route 75 will run between Vermont South & Stop 6 Flinders Street/Russell Street

Shuttle services will operate between Stop 4 Flinders Street/Elizabeth Street & Stop D11 Waterfront City

City Circle services (to commence at 2pm)

Route 35 will operate between Stop D6 - Flinders Street West and District Docklands (formerly Harbour Town Shopping Centre)

Swanston Street / St Kilda Road services (8.30am to 1.45pm)

Routes 5, 16, 72 will run between south eastern suburbs & Southbank Blvd diverting via Park Street, Kings Way and Sturt Street

Routes 3a, 64, 67 will run between the south eastern suburbs & Dudley Street siding, diverting via Park Street, Kings Way, Queensbridge Street and William Street

Shuttle services will run along Swanston Street between Stop 1 Melbourne University & Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station

Bourke Street services (9.30am to 1.35pm)

Route 86 will run between Bundoora RMIT Terminus & Waterfront City Docklands Terminus diverting via La Trobe Street (both directions)

Route 96 will run between East Brunswick & St Kilda Beach diverting via La Trobe Street (both directions)

Shuttle services will operate along Bourke Street between Stop 1 Spencer Street & Stop 4 Queen Street

Other services (8.30am – 1.45pm)

Route 1 will run between East Coburg & Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station and between South Melbourne Beach & Southbank Blvd (last stop is Stop 17 Sturt Street/Southbank Blvd)

Route 6 Will run between Moreland & Stop 8 Melbourne Central Station and between Glen Iris & Southbank Blvd diverting via Park Street, Kings Way and Sturt Street

Route 58 will operate as normal with 1 min additional running time between Wells Street / Park Street & Dudley Street

Route 30 to commence at 1.35pm

Docklands precinct services

Flinders Street services (3.30pm – 10pm)

Route 70 Will run between Wattle Park & Stop D6 Flinders Street West (passengers for Docklands are advised to walk to Collins Street for Route 11 or Route 48 service – approx. 320 metres)

Route 75 will run between Vermont South & Stop D6 Flinders Street West (passengers for Docklands are advised to walk to Collins Street for Route 11 or Route 48 service – approx. 320 metres)

Bourke Street services (3.30pm – 11pm)

Route 86 will run as usual between Bundoora RMIT Terminus & Docklands District Terminus

Shuttle services (3.30pm – 11pm)

Route 86a will run between Waterfront City Docklands & Russell Street/Bourke Street

Other services (3.50pm – last tram)

Route 30 will run as usual between St Vincent’s Plaza & Docklands District

Route 35 (City Circle) will run between Stop D6 Flinders Street West & Stop D11 Docklands District (no service on Harbour Esplanade)

Cyclists

Cycle paths will be impacted by these closures and cyclists are encouraged to find alternative routes. All cyclists will be asked to dismount if travelling along the water side of Harbour Esplanade due to the large increase of foot traffic at the event.
