Bec – TAFE electrical teacher

Meet Bec, TAFE electrical teacher

After working in the industry for 20 years, teaching what I already knew was easier than I thought!

It was Bec's cousin, a TAFE teacher himself, and her dad who encouraged her to consider a new career as a teacher. With over 2 decades of experience in the electrical field and an engaging personality, Bec was practically born to be a TAFE teacher!

From completing her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to landing a teaching job at Chisholm, Bec has never looked back. "Electrical is sometimes quite difficult to grasp, so when I see my students understand what they are learning, that's very rewarding. Listening to their work stories and watching them enjoy their time at TAFE is a bonus."

With 3 lively teenagers to look after, Bec is also a fan of the flexibility teaching brings. "The hours are great for my family and me. After years of travelling and working across different job sites, I appreciate the consistency and stability of my new vocation. Making dinner every night? Not so much!" Bec laughs.

Bec's advice for any aspiring teacher is simple: "you've got nothing to lose. Great hours and great people to work with. If you have industry experience, you will be surprised at how easy it is to teach!"
