The Fire Awareness Awards is a community focussed awards program that acknowledges the great work of individuals, community groups and organisations who deliver projects that reduce the incidence and impact of fire in Victoria. Projects can focus on any fire type, including structure fires (housing, commercial, industrial), bushfires or grassfires.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) aims to reduce the incidence and impact of fire and other emergencies on the community. This is achieved through the delivery of educational strategies that assist the community to become more self-reliant.

A 'Neighbourhood Safer Place' also known as a 'Bushfire Place of Last Resort' (NSP-BPLR) is a place of last resort when all other bushfire plans have failed.
A smoke alarm provides early warning and time to escape. The MFB's campaign at the end of daylight saving each year reminds people to: "Change your clock; change your smoke alarm battery".
