Geothermal energy is clean, reliable and renewable. It is derived from naturally occurring heat within hot rocks and water reservoirs below the earth's surface. This heat can be collected and converted to electricity.
The Sustainability Fund is established under section 70 of the Environment Protection Act 1970 (EP Act) and receives money collected from Victorian landfill levies. Funds are allocated with the joint consent of the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change and Premier.
