The Victorian Government committed to establish the LGBTIQ+ legal service following the 2016 Access to Justice Review. The legal service is also a key commitment in the "Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ strategy 2022-32" and received funding through the 2022–2023 State Budget.
A grant program has been developed to establish the community-led specialist LGBTIQ+ legal service. Applicants are invited to apply for the grant for 2022–23 and 2023–24, which has a total funding of $1,600,000 (excluding GST).
The successful applicant will be required to provide services comprising:
- a legal advice and casework clinic
- a strategic legal policy program
- a legal education, training and community outreach program to create awareness of legal rights among LGBTIQ+ communities and upskill legal professionals on legal issues and needs for LGBTIQ+ Victorians.
