Building from Strength: 10-Year Industry Plan

Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings has launched Building from Strength: 10-Year Industry Plan for Family Violence Prevention and Response at a stakeholder event hosted by Family Safety Victoria.

The plan outlines the Victorian Government’s long-term vision and plan to equip and support workers to prevent and respond to family violence.

This includes the specialist family violence and primary prevention workforces and other sectors that work with victim survivors, children and perpetrators of family violence, such as community services, health, justice and education and training.

Bernadette McCartney, from Bethany Community Support Geelong, and Deputy Chair of Domestic Violence Victoria, was a guest speaker at the launch.

Ms McCartney shared her personal reflections of being part of the development of the plan, and the importance of fostering connections across the system to better respond to family violence and to prevent it from occurring in the first place. She also talked about how the plan will provide the foundation for opportunities to be innovative and build a workforce which is better supported with a focus on health and wellbeing.

The Industry Plan was a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence and was developed in close collaboration with victim survivors, Aboriginal and diverse communities, the community sector and government agencies.

A Rolling Action Plan will be released in May 2018 and will further detail implementation of the Industry Plan. Family Safety Victoria will continue to work closely with victim survivors and the sector to guide implementation.
