Best Start is a Victorian government early years initiative. It supports families, caregivers and communities to provide the best possible environment, experiences and care for young children in the important years from birth through to school.
The Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality and Morbidity reviews all cases of maternal, perinatal and paediatric mortality and morbidity, and provides strategic advice on avoiding preventable deaths to the Minister for Health and the department.
When a baby is born all parents receive an important book to record their child’s health information. This record is called the My Health, Learning and Development Record and is commonly known as the green book.
