Almost half of all Victorians will experience mental illness in their lifetime but too many people don’t speak up for fear of stigma and discrimination. It’s time to start a new conversation - mental health is something which affects us all.
The 'It’s Time to Talk about Mental Health' video series features Victorians sharing their personal experience with their mental health and illustrates how we are all affected in different ways.
If you or someone you know is in crisis or needs support call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.
Re-designing Victoria’s mental health system
On 2 March 2021, the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System delivered its final report – the first of its kind in Australia.
It has taken two years and the contributions of thousands of committed and passionate Victorians to produce the recommendations in this report.
The Royal Commission’s recommendations set out a 10-year vision to rebuild the system from the ground up, with communities and people with lived experience at the centre.
Recommendations are grouped around four key features of the future mental health and wellbeing system:
- A responsive and integrated system with community at its heart
- A system attuned to promoting inclusion and addressing inequities
- Re-established confidence through prioritisation and collaboration
- Contemporary and adaptable services.
