LGBTI Taskforce meeting 2 outcomes

Minutes for LGBTI Taskforce meeting 2, held on 17 December 2015.

The Victorian Government values and celebrates diversity. It affirms the right to equality, fairness and decency for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Victorians and is committed to removing discrimination from Victorian laws, services and society. 

The Government’s LGBTI Taskforce held its second meeting on 17 December 2015. The meeting reviewed the work plans of the Justice and Health and Human Services Working Groups.

Justice work plan

The Taskforce endorsed the Justice Working Group work plan.

Projects include:

  • implementation of the Same-Sex Adoption Bill
  • contributing to the modernisation of the Adoption Act
  • implementation of the expungement scheme for historical homosexual sex convictions
  • legal support for LGBTI people as part of the Access to Justice Review
  • removing barriers to new birth certificates for trans and gender diverse and intersex Victorians

Health and Human Services work plan

The Taskforce endorsed the Health and Human Services work plan.

Projects include:

  • development of a Rainbow e-Quality on-line guide for mainstream health and human services
  • review evidence and provide advice on ways in which services can better support prevention and response to LGBTI young people at risk of homelessness,
  • identify opportunities to better incorporate LGBTI people in programs and initiatives aimed at Senior Victorians
  • provide advice on the development of action plans regarding LGBTI needs in the 10 Year Mental Health Plan
  • improve clinical response to intersex children and infants
  • education and training of health professionals on gender identity issues

Community engagement

The Taskforce noted the Victorian Pride Network’s participation in Midsumma and ChillOut. Both will provide an opportunity to promote existing equality initiatives and engage with the community.
