Richmond to Footscray Rail Corridor

The Victorian Coalition Government has allocated $8 million over two years to progress development along Melbourne's Richmond to Footscray rail corridor in its latest budget.

The four unique projects are the E-Gate development, Federation Square East, the Flinders Street Station redevelopment and the Richmond Station Precinct.

These projects all have the potential to deliver new jobs, better pedestrian access, residential housing opportunities, new open public space and better public transport facilities.

Federation Square East

  • 3.3 hectare site in the heart of Melbourne
  • Potential for a new commercial, residential and civic precinct in the CBD
  • Proposed to go to market in 2014


  • 20 hectare site, just 2 kilometres from the CBD
  • Existing transport links and potential for mixed use development
  • Proposed to go to market in 2014

Flinders Street Station

  • Landmark Melbourne site needing restoration and improved transport function
  • Currently assessing winning design of the 2013 Flinders Street Station Design
  • Competition
  • Preliminary Business Case underway

Richmond Station

  • Gateway to Melbourne's sports and entertainment precinct
  • Need to revitalise this ageing station and surrounds
  • Preliminary studies underway
