Office of Projects Victoria

Purpose

The new Office of Projects Victoria (OPV) seeks to improve the quality of advice available to the Victorian Government when developing and implementing new infrastructure projects.

Description

Establishing the OPV was an election commitment. The OPV will oversee the planning and delivery of infrastructure projects, and will complement Infrastructure Victoria's independent advice on infrastructure priorities. It will advise on capital investments, monitor all major projects, and improve government project delivery capability.

By providing expert advice on asset investment decisions and delivery, and by carefully monitoring the performance of major projects, the OPV will help to ensure we deliver the right infrastructure projects, on time and on budget.

The OPV will also develop both public sector capability and skills in project development and delivery across government, and provide advice on interventions when projects are in distress.

A new Office of the Victorian Chief Engineer will be an integral part of the OPV. The Chief Engineer will provide the government with policy direction and advice about the technical design and engineering aspects of projects.

Key outcomes

The OPV will improve planning and implementation of infrastructure projects in Victoria.

Other outcomes include improved public sector capability and skills in project development and delivery.
