Scholarships and financial help if you're studying to become a teacher

Financial help is available if you're studying to become a teacher.

Financial help while you're studying

The financial help you can get depends on:

  • your circumstances
  • the course you're studying
  • your education provider.

If you're at university, see student income support at the StudyAssist website. Your university or education provider may also be able to offer advice and/or financial assistance.

If you're studying with certain Victorian providers the government may contribute towards the cost of your course. Check if you can get government-subsidised training or talk to your school.

Victorian Government scholarships for people enrolling in secondary teaching degrees

If you enrol in a Victorian secondary school teaching degree for the first time in 2024 or 2025, you could be eligible for a scholarship that pays you while you learn and can cover costs of your studies.

More than $93.2 million will enable new scholarships to support teaching degree students with the cost of studying and living. The scholarships will be available to students who enrol in Victorian secondary school teaching degrees in 2024 and 2025, with further payments if they work in Victorian government secondary or specialist school settings after they graduate.

Total scholarship payments for students who complete their studies successfully and then teach in a Victorian government secondary or specialist school setting for 2 years will match the standard HELP fees charged by the Commonwealth Government.
