Welcoming our New Multicultural Commissioners

Statement from the Chairperson

The Victorian Multicultural Commission welcomes Minister for Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Ros Spence’s announcement of eight new appointees to the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

Each commissioner is recognised for their skills and lived experience championing cultural and religious diversity across Victoria.

Our new Commissioners come from Beninese, Nigerian, Sri Lankan, Greek, Portuguese, central European, South Sudanese and Indian heritage, representing various cultural and religious backgrounds.

The new appointees are:

  • Lunorphare (Luna) Folly (Youth Commissioner)
  • Abiola Akinbiyi (Community Representative Commissioner)
  • Tarang Chawla
  • Jennifer Huppert
  • Nyangak (Lizzy) Kuoth
  • Mohamed Mohideen
  • Bill Papastergiadis
  • Silvia Renda

Bwe Thay has been successfully reappointed to the Deputy Chairperson position. Bwe was appointed Commissioner in 2019 and subsequently served as the Deputy Chairperson from August 2020.

The new commissioners join current serving commissioners Sankaran (Shankar) Kasynathan, Dr Judy Tang and Vivienne Nguyen AM, Chairperson.

The new Commission complement will continue to strengthen our work promoting and advocating for diverse communities.

Outgoing Commissioners are Tina Hosseini, Khayshie Tilak Ramesh, Walter Rapoport, Mohammed Yassin and Rosaria Zarro.

We thank our outgoing commissioners who have completed their terms. We are grateful for their dedication to representing the interests of diverse communities in Victoria. Their contribution and commitment has been exceptional, most especially most especially during the COVID period.
