About the Pilot
VicFreeWiFi is the largest free public WiFi network of its kind in Australia.
It is currently available in outdoor public spaces in the Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo CBDs. The network provides a combined coverage zone of over 600,000 square metres across the three cities, making it the largest outdoor free public WiFi network of its kind in Australia.
The network not only helps cater for Victoria's fast-growing demand for connectivity in urban areas, but also provides a large scale communications infrastructure for collaborative projects, trialling the Internet of Things (IoT) and advanced connected technologies.
With strong involvement from industry and government, VicFreeWiFi plays a key role in piloting innovative connected and smart city projects to help facilitate better public transportation systems, public services and provide more efficient communications.
