Wendy's 37-year career in the domestic and family violence sector began in 1978 when she helped initiate what later became Brenda House Women's Refuge. In an environment that was dominated by communal refuges, Wendy and the Brenda House team created a new operating model that acknowledged the specific needs of women and children. Her outstanding advocacy led to Brenda House being at the forefront of the dispersed accommodation model, where women and children are provided with the dignity of their own space and tailored support.
Wendy has a distinguished record of participation in both regional and statewide advisory committees, government and sector consultations. She was one of the founders of the current peak body Domestic Violence Victoria.
Creating dynamic, strategic and productive relationships with key stakeholders is a hallmark of Wendy's contribution to the sector. In her role as a founding Manager of the Safe Futures Foundation, Wendy was instrumental in a partnership with a range of generous supporters, such as Coles, where grants, food and goods were provided regularly to the Foundation.
Wendy's innovative vision, dedication and leadership has resulted in many changes and reforms within the sector, where she consistently challenges the status quo in search for a better response to women and children living with violence.
