What we do

  • Give practical advice, information and support to employees and employers.
  • Conduct targeted information campaigns.
  • Investigate complaints.
  • Carry out a range of enforcement functions to ensure the laws are being followed.
  • Work with other government agencies to ensure fair employment conditions. This includes the Victorian Labour Hire Authority, which operates a licensing system for labour hire businesses operating in Victoria.

Our vision and strategy

Our vision is to create productive and prosperous workplaces for all Victorians. That means fairer conditions for workers and a level playing field for businesses.

We have 5 strategic priorities to help us deliver on our vision.

  1. Reduce harm: we prevent and reduce harm in Victorian workplaces.
  2. Educate and inform: we help businesses and workers understand their rights and obligations under the laws we enforce.
  3. Understand our stakeholders: insights, feedback and information from the community helps us to better target our compliance work and ensure our educative services meet stakeholder needs.
  4. Strong and trusted relationships: we develop and leverage strategic partnerships to help us enhance compliance with the law.
  5. Be a modern regulator: we implement regulatory best practice to deliver positive outcomes for workers and businesses.
