Ana Rufatt-Ruiz is an exceptional community advocate who works tirelessly to support public housing residents.

She migrated to Australia from Chile in 1971 and has lived in the South Yarra public housing high-rise for 43 years. Before that she lived in the Richmond high-rise for 9 years.

For over 40 years, Ana has supported public housing tenants across high-rise estates in the inner south. She empowers tenants to advocate for themselves and to stand up for their rights.

Ana has created partnerships with local community groups to bring enrichment activities to residents to enhance their quality of life.

She has organised forums for the renter community to voice their concerns and join discussions with authorities about improving the public housing system.

Ana assists vulnerable residents facing housing issues. She supports older residents and women experiencing social isolation, family violence and mental health issues. She helps residents feel safe and supported to access services and participate in the community.

Ana has won multiple Social Housing Volunteer Awards.
