Victorians can see what the future Kangan Institute campus in Melton will look like. Designs have been released for the new campus, which will open in 2028.

The Melton TAFE will focus on training in construction and other trades. It will support around 800 students a year – 600 on site and 200 online.

The new campus will be in Cobblebank, near the train station and close to schools and the future hospital.

It will help to meet demand for skilled workers in rapidly growing industries.

New facilities will include workshops for:

  • construction
  • gas fitting
  • welding
  • refrigeration
  • plumbing.

There will also be an emerging technologies lab and a cybersecurity simulation space.

Design firm Architectus has designed the campus with input from Traditional Owners. A First Peoples Engagement Centre on campus will support culturally safe learning and community connection.

The design also focuses on sustainability, aiming for a 5 Star Green Star rating from Green Building Council Australia.

Kangan Institute is well placed to build and operate the new Melton campus. It has a strong connection to the area and a history of excellent construction and trades training.
While the new campus is being built, Kangan Institute is delivering programs through Western BACE to give local students access to construction and digital skills training.

The new campus is being funded with $55 million from our Building Better TAFE Fund.

The fund is ensuring students have the best facilities to train in, close to home. It is also providing:

  • a new Kangan Institute TAFE campus in Sunbury
  • the Centre of Excellence for Disability Inclusion at The Gordon in Geelong
  • the Bendigo TAFE Learning Hub in Castlemaine, which opened last year.
