DGS legal team nominated for an Australian Law Award

The Department of Government Services’ (DGS) Office of the General Counsel (OGC) has been named a finalist for In-House Team of the Year at the 2025 Australian Law Awards.

This recognition highlights the OGC’s outstanding delivery of expert legal advice that helps individuals and businesses to engage with government.

Since 2023, the OGC has played a vital role in supporting DGS’ work in delivering digital information and services to Victorians.

Their legal guidance has strengthened key government decision making and ensured public services are delivered with integrity, transparency and in the best interests of the community.

The team provides legal advice across a wide range of areas, including:

• large commercial transactions and high-profile litigation matters
• privacy, data governance and digital service delivery
• statutory obligations and risk management for the Victorian Government Contact Centre — including crucial public facing services such as Births, Deaths and Marriages, Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) and Service Victoria
• complex procurement, contract and technology arrangements that support digital infrastructure and service integration at DGS.

Award winners will be announced on 14 August 2025.
