About

Nouria Salehi AM has spent many years as a passionate advocate for women’s rights and provision of education in Afghanistan. Nouria continues to assist Afghan refugee widows and their children in Pakistan by using proceeds from her Afghan Gallery Restaurant in Fitzroy.

The Afghan Australian Development Organisation (AADO) provides capacity building and community development assistance through Nouria’s educational projects and emergency relief aid to the people of Afghanistan, as well as helping migrants to resettle in Australia. The program has an impressive record of economical and effective outcomes made possible by deep community networks.

Nouria has received many formal recognitions for her humanitarian work both in Australia and Afghanistan including an Order of Australia Medal in 1997 for her human rights, international land mine campaign and community work; Centenary Medal 2003 for her work with refugees’ settlement; Bringing People Together Award 2006; and 2012 Victorian Senior Australian of the Year.
