What you need to know

Earth Hour is the world’s biggest movement to protect our planet.
Date and time: 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

What do you need to do

Switch off non-essential lighting for one hour. Across Australia and around the world, homes and businesses will turn off their lights for one hour to show support for action on climate change and nature protection. Earth Hour is a powerful reminder that when millions of people take small actions together, they can make a big difference.

What you can do at home

On the night of Earth Hour, Saturday 28 March, you can take part by:

  • Switching off non-essential lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
  • Sharing your participation on social media to raise awareness.
  • Visiting the Earth Hour website to learn more about how you can support the movement.

What happens in the workplace

Each year, Accommodation and Library Services (ALS), together with its facilities management partner, works with building owners across Victoria to support Earth Hour.

During the hour:

  • Non-essential lighting, equipment and advertising signage may be switched off where possible.
  • Safety lighting and security systems will remain on as required.

Before you leave work on Friday 27 March, please remember to:

  • Switch off your PC and monitor.
  • Turn off the lights in meeting rooms.
