Hampstead Road path closure - October 2023

We’re building a new tram maintenance and stabling facility for Melbourne’s new next-generation G Class trams on part of the 61 – 71 Hampstead Road site in Maidstone. The accessible, comfortable, and energy-efficient next-generation G Class trams will start rolling out locally in the west on routes 57, 59 and 82 from 2025.

What we’re doing

The footpath on the western side of Hampstead Road will remain closed between Wattle and Williamson roads from Saturday 28 October until 2025 for road widening works.

There will be temporary footpath and lane closures on Williamson, Hampstead and Wests roads for underground services works throughout November.

Where and when we’ll be working

We’ll be working on Hampstead, Williamson and Wests roads through November. All works will occur during construction hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
  • Saturday, 7am to 1pm.

Changes to the way you travel

  • Pedestrian detours are in place on Hampstead Road. Please continue to use pedestrian crossings at Williamson Road or between Keith and Richardson streets.
  • Drivers can expect reduced speed limits around temporary lane closures
  • The Wattle and Hampstead roads bus stop, servicing routes 215, 406 and 408 is closed until 2025

Please follow reduced speed limits, detour signage and the direction of traffic controllers for your safety. Temporary impacts are shown on the map over the page.
