Liz Dawes OAM lost her 18-year-old son to brain cancer, and in his honour started the Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation in Australia and the US in 2013.

The RCD Foundation is now Australia’s largest paediatric brain cancer foundation. It has raised over $20 million and leveraged a further $11.4 million in partner funding. This has funded high impact research here in Victoria, Australia, and the world.

The foundation's achievements include:

  • expanding clinical trials
  • genomic testing program for every child diagnosed with a brain tumour
  • a music therapy program
  • advocacy and parental support.

In the 2022 Australia Day Honours, Liz was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for ‘service to the community through charitable organisations’.
