Marcella:
Today we're heading down to
the Melbourne Royal Showgrounds.
Making sure that
the show bags
are safe for the kids.
Laura:
So, in preparation
for this year's
Melbourne Royal Show,
Consumer Affairs Victoria's product safety team
inspected a total of
329 show bags.
Marcella:
Hi, we’re here from Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Showgrounds Worker:
Yeah. No worries.
If you head straight up...
Laura:
This included testing
and examination of more
than 2,300 individual items.
Marcella:
Show time!
So I'm just looking for toys
under 36 months.
Making sure that there's
no choking hazards.
Projectile toys -
making sure that the
the correct warning labels are on there.
Cosmetic items - making sure that the ingredients
are listed on the particular products.
So, that their parents know
what they're putting onto their skin.
Laura:
Through these inspections,
what we're looking for
are items that do not comply
with the mandatory standards.
Marcella:
I love the fact that we,
do everything in our power
to make sure products are safe
for the Victorian community.
Woman:
Do you like showbags?
Children:
Definitely!
Obviously!
Ten, nine, eight...
Marcella: It's really important,
we hold those accountable
and we send a clear, strong message,
that noncompliance
won't be tolerated.
