Communities, councils, government organisations, and members of the public have the opportunity to put forward locations they believe a fixed road safety camera will make a difference.
These suggestions are then assessed by the Road Safety Camera Site Selection Committee, a group made up of experts from several government organisations, and Victoria Police.
The committee assesses each suggestion's location crash history, existing enforcement options, and other safety factors to determine whether a fixed road safety camera will make a meaningful difference.
While fixed road safety cameras are installed permanently at high-risk locations, mobile road safety cameras add flexibility, focusing on emerging problem areas identified by the community, Victoria Police, and other government organisations.
Mobile road speed cameras are rotated through sites that have been assessed and approved by road safety specialists.
These mobile camera locations, when used for speed enforcement, must satisfy at least one of the following, a recent history of speed-related crashes, complaints of excessive speeding, or has been identified by Victoria Police to be a speed-related problem location.
