VCASS – This is why I love my school:

[Female Student Speaker]

Welcome to VCASS. Like any government school, we get a great classroom education but we also get to focus on what we're passionate about.

[Mishka, Dance Student]

I think it's really important that I get to dance as part of my schooling because it's the perfect balance between academics and doing what I love. Although we are an arts based school, we prioritise academics and dance pretty much equally and strive in both really, really amazingly. We have really great teachers at VCASS. Being surrounded by people so passionate is really great, because we kind of build each other up. And being built up by people who also love what they're doing is so inspiring. And the limits are non-existent. If you have a hobby and you love it, stick to it because it could become your entire life and I'm so thankful that dance is the pathway for me.

We love being able to share our work with our family and friends through school events, in person and online.

[Oscar, Live Stream Assistant and Drums Student]

The live streams at VCASS, they allow concerts to be more accessible to people who can't make it to the room for concerts. And it's really good, so they can see how the people they know are developing in their playing. Like last night, my dad was sick and I had a performance, and then he was able to watch online as well as all my family in the UK, Perth and all around the world. It's good to have the live stream. It helps young musicians and dancers and artists hone their skills and practice what it means to be professional.

We know how important wellbeing is for students. That's why we work it into everything we do at this school. We even have wellbeing captains.

[Janey, Wellbeing Captain, Theatre Arts Student]

I'd say there's a lot of things available at VCASS in terms of wellbeing. We've got Senior Health and Wellbeing Week. We also have a mental health practitioner, Laney, who offers several different counselling services. She is really awesome in order to get that support, I guess. We also dedicate quite a few days throughout the term to wellbeing initiatives. Especially as wellbeing captain, it's been really good to have a sense of input. But I think that all of the students can sort of have a say in what they want to celebrate at the school. I'd say that, especially in high school, it's a time of a lot of transitions and it can be challenging at times. So I think it's a big time to figure out who you are. And so wellbeing is really important to be really grounding and help you find your sense of self.

From performances to wellbeing and sharing our work with family and friends... This is why I love my school.
