0:01 Today's exercise is a marine search and rescue exercise involving a number of our volunteer marine search and rescue units from Western Port and Eastern Victoria.
0:09 And they're involved in a simulated search to test their preparedness and readiness for the summer that's coming ahead in all the action we get as the boating really increases here on Victoria's waterways.
0:20 The search involves a simulated activity for an overdue fisherman who's gone out in their recreational fishing boat and has failed to return.
0:28: So a search has been mounted by police, and they've requested the assistance of our volunteers, and they'll conduct a series of searches,
0:34: so doing a systematic search of that waterway, to make sure they cover all of the ground
0:38 so that the person who is missing has got every chance of being found.
0:42 Victoria's Marine Search and Rescue volunteers undertake about 1000 jobs every year, and a lot of those
0:46 are urgent searches for missing people or people who are in distress.
0:49 So this is a simulated activity to give those volunteers
0:54 an opportunity to rehearse and practice what those responses would be like
0:57 in the real-life scenario, so it's a great development opportunity,
1:00 especially for our up-and-coming volunteers who have worked through
1:02 their qualification system, gained qualifications on boats.
1:06 This is their chance to put it into practice and really see what it's like in the real day.
