Meet Felicity Barnett

Hi, my name is Felicity. I am the head chef here at Canteen 3215.

It's a big responsibility being head chef, which I didn't think I realised until I had taken over the role, but it's really exciting to be able to step straight out of an apprenticeship into head chef. Which is, not many chefs could say that, so I'm very proud of myself. Well, you always get to taste your food as you go along, which is exciting. So that's a big, big, positive. I love tasting all the sweet treats and baking and stuff like that, but otherwise I just love working in team environment with people from all walks of life.

Before I started my VET subject, I didn't really know what I wanted to do all throughout high school. I sort of, I knew that I liked cooking but I didn't think that it would be my career, as such. I had teachers at school sort of discourage me and say, "Oh you don't want to waste your life in the kitchen." I did my VET subject in year 11, 12. So I did a Certificate II in hospitality, cooking operations.

Well, advice to my younger self would be just go for it. There's no harm in trying and you don't know until you try. So I just say whatever your, whatever your heart is drawing you to, I say, go for it. 'Cause you've got nothing to lose.
