Evan's story

[clapboard]

[laughter]

Hi, my name is Evan, I studied chemical engineering and chemistry and I came into the graduate program through the generalist stream and the Aboriginal pathway.

I ended up studying chemical engineering and chemistry due to my passion for engineering that I kind of developed when I was a lot younger, then during high school, I kind of fell in love with chemistry.

During my studies I was able to do some internships where I developed my passion for water and hopefully finding a solution to water recycling within the future.

During my internships I was part of the private as well as the public sector and I knew from those experiences public is where I wanted it. I was lucky enough to get a position at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in the integrated water management team.

The graduate program has impacted my life in such a positive way, it's given me so much more confidence, as well as like the friends and the people I've met through the program. I would never have met them otherwise. It's been a very kind of wide eye-opening experience, especially being part of the generalist stream.

I was lucky enough to go through roles where I was very fish out of water but I was able to kind of grow and develop those skills, so this definitely has pushed me closer to my goal. I still want to end up in water, which I knew before, but I feel like I maybe want to end up in a managerial role where I can have other grads come through and kind of give them the opportunities that I was lucky enough to have throughout this year.
