Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) has launched a ‘Know the Funda-rentals’ campaign highlighting the important things Victorians need to know about renting, and where they can go for advice and support.
More people are renting than ever before. In 2024, around 2 million Victorians were living in a rental property.
The Funda-rentals campaign shares tips on the top issues facing renters, such as getting urgent repairs, properties not meeting minimum standards, rent increases, and renters not being clear on their rights before signing a rental agreement.
The campaign demonstrates CAV’s commitment to enforcing key consumer protections and creating a fair and safe rental market across Victoria. It also supports one of the Victorian Government’s priorities – getting more Victorians into a home.
Victoria has the strongest rental laws in Australia, with more than 130 rental reforms introduced in 2021, and further reforms coming into effect at the end of this year. Most real estate agents and rental providers want to do the right thing and this campaign helps them understand and comply with their legal obligations.
