January 2026 Victorian bushfires

Support is available for people affected by the Victorian bushfires that started on 7 January 2026.

After a major disaster such as a storm, bushfire or flood – dedicated relief and recovery may become available to help you get back on your feet.

Relief support helps with immediate needs through:

  • relief centres
  • emergency accommodation
  • emergency payments.

Recovery support is designed to help with longer term effects of disasters, such as:

  • cleaning up
  • mental health support.

Who is involved in relief and recovery

Emergency Management Victoria coordinates state and regional relief and recovery on behalf of the Victorian Government.

Other government departments, agencies, local councils and community organisations are our partners in this and play a key role in recovery.
