About

Simon Lewis has been a figure of international leadership in the lifesaving community. Among his career achievements, he has trained lifeguards in Mexico, guided refugee rescue operations off the coast of Libya and spearheaded a campaign to provide resources for a jet ski rescue team in Greece.

Simon became a finalist for the Australian of the Year Victorian Local Hero Award in 2017 and awarded an International Life Saving Federation citation of merit in 2016. His actions were acknowledged with honourable mentions in both the Commonwealth and Victorian Parliaments.

Simon’s other community contributions are just as important as his rescue work. He established three public funding campaigns, raising over $30,000 for lifesaving causes. He became the face of the Surf Lifesaving Foundation’s Australia Day Appeal, raising over $201,000 in 2016. In 2014, Simon ran eight marathons in five months in every state and territory of Australia for the Indigenous Marathon Project.
